HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- The Huntsville Havoc brought back goaltender Mark Sibbald for a third season to serve as the cornerstone of this year's team.

However, 16 games into the current Southern Professional Hockey League campaign, they've decided to remove him from the foundation.

Calling it "strictly an internal matter," Havoc coach Randy Murphy said Wednesday the reigning SPHL Goaltender of the Year is no longer with the team.

"It's disappointing, no question," Murphy said. "At the end of the day, I've got to listen to my team. It was their wish, and we're moving forward.

"One guy doesn't define a team. He's a guy that has great ability, but again, there's a lot of things that have to come along with that. We're confident that we can overcome this."

Sibbald was 4-4-2 this season with a 2.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .916. Rookie Corey Milan, who is 3-2-1 with a 3.12 goals-against average, will assume a much heavier workload now.

"Corey's our No. 1 guy right now, and we're going to be adding a goaltender in the near future," said Murphy, who has brought on former UAH and Havoc goalie Steve Briere to be the emergency backup.

"It's a good opportunity for Corey to sort of assert himself," Murphy said. "I fully expect him to take advantage of it."
