The Devils have acquired defenseman Kurtis Foster and goaltender Timo Pielmeier from Anaheim in exchange for forward Rod Pelley, defenseman Mark Fraser and a seventh-round pick in 2012.

Foster, 30, has one goal and one assist in nine games this season with the Ducks. Listed at 6-5, 225 lbs., he was slowed by a thigh injury to start the season.

The Devils add an experienced, right-handed shot to a blue line that's currently missing key regulars. Andy Greene is out four weeks with a non-displaced toe fracture, and Anton Volchenkov (hand) was placed on injured reserve on Monday.

Foster's career totals show a strong offensive upside. Entering this year, the Carp, Ontario, native had posted four campaigns of 20-or-more points in six seasons, including a career-high 42 (8g-34a) with Tampa Bay in 2009-10.

Foster had eight goals, 14 assists in 74 games last season with Edmonton. Five of those goals came on the power play.

Drafted by Calgary in the second round, 40th overall, in 2000, Foster made his NHL debut in 2002-03 with the Thrashers. He has 38 goals and 105 assists for 143 points in 340 NHL games with Atlanta, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Edmonton and Anaheim.

Pielmeier, 22, has appeared in 10 games this season with Elmira (ECHL), posting four wins, five losses and 3.45 goals-against average. The 6-0, 175-lb. netminder made his NHL debut by appearing in one game with Anaheim last season. He was San Jose’s third choice, 83rd overall, in 2007.
