CHL: Reaney's heroics give Rush overtime win

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 9:27 pm

In a game where much of the pressure was on the Rapid City Rush, Les Reaney had it free and easy.

The winger came through with two relatively open chances late in a contest with Tulsa on Tuesday, scoring the tying goal with less than 9 minutes remaining and the overtime game-winner in a 4-3 road win over the Oilers.

Reaney converted on an unassisted shorthanded chance on a breakaway, putting the puck past Tulsa goaltender Ian Keserich with 8:28 to go to tie the game at 3-all. In the extra session, Reaney made the most of a nice feed from Jeff Kyrzakos just more than 2 minutes into overtime to seal the Rush's second consecutive victory.

Tim Boron moved to a perfect 3-0 in net on the season, surviving a near-constant barrage of Tulsa shots. The Oilers peppered the net 37 times compared with the Rush's 23. Keserich made 19 saves in defeat.

Rapid City (5-1-1) twice had to battle back from one-goal deficits at the BOK Center. Tulsa first took a 2-1 lead on second-period goals from Dylan Clarke and Mike Ullrich. Clarke's goal came just 26 seconds into the second frame as he fired the Oilers' first shot of the period into the top-left corner.

Ullrich scored with about 8 minutes to go in the period after teammate Ryan Cramer set an effective screen in front of Boron.

Jesse Schultz fired a shot between Keserich's pads on a power play early in the third period to tie the game at 2-all. Konrad Reeder and Carl Hudson were given assists. The official scorer gave Shawn Limpright the goal, but Rush broadcaster Daniel Nieves was adamant that Schultz will be given the score upon review.

Limpright did, however, get the Rush on the board just 3:26 in, also on the man-advantage. He scored on a rebound from the top of the near circle for his third goal of the year.

David Solway helped Tulsa (4-3-1) regain the lead 3-2 with just more than 12 minutes to go with an unassisted goal off a faceoff before Reaney's heroics saved the evening for Rapid City.

The Rush's four-game road trip concludes tonight at Wichita before a pair of home games against Fort Wayne over the weekend.
