10 Years Ago Today......

It was ten years ago today that the Vernon Multi-Plex (now the Vernon Wesbild Centre) opened it's doors on Friday, October 12th 2001 as the Vernon Vipers hosted the visiting and expansion Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The Vipers who finished the previous season (2000-2001) in the Vernon Civic Arena started the 2001-2002 regular season on the road, playing its first ten games away from home, as the club was waiting for the final finishes on the new rink.

The Vipers would come home to face the Silverbacks with a 2-8 record and win the season opener 3-2 in overtime. Forward, Chad Clower would score the first goal in the brand new Muli-Plex as forward, Mark Nelson would be the hero scoring the OT winner in front of a sold out crowd.
