Vernon Vipers Inter-Squad Game: Team Blue 6 Team White 2

I was at tonight's Vipers inter-squad game as Team Blue defeated Team White 6-2 in front of a very small crowd at the Wesbild Centre.

Starting Goaltenders:

Team Blue: Mike Vlanich (92)
Team White: Danny Todosychuk (94)

1st Period: Team Blue with an early two on one odd man rush couldnt connect getting two or three early average shots on goal in the opening five or so minutes as both teams didnt really generate alot of offence early. Team Blue was the better of the two teams in the opening period scoring first. Not alot of good scoring chances as both goaltenders didnt see alot of rubber after twenty minutes of play. Vernon product, Jedd Soleway with his first of two goals on the night, looked very good through out tonights contest. Adam Tambellini with a real nice shot beat Mike Vlanich upstairs on a nice goal. Alex Hagen with some nice moves went through three white jerseys before getting stopped by Danny Todosychuk. Team White finally picked up their game late in the 1st but were down 2-1 after twenty minutes of play.

2nd Period: Team White looked much better to start the 2nd period getting a few good chances early. Jedd Soleway with his second of the night gave Team Blue a 3-1 lead. Riley Hunt who has lots of speed carried the puck alot this period and looked very good. Hunt with a great chance in close hit the post. Vipers captain, Patrick McGillis with a real nice move in close beat Danny Todosoychuk giving Team Blue a 4-1 lead. Darren Hogg would replace Todosoychuk at the midway mark, as Mike Hails replaced Mike Vlanich also at the midway mark of the 2nd period. The physical play slowly started to pick up late in the period with Steve Alldridge laying out the biggest hit of the game. Team Blue took a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.

3rd Period: Team Blue come out strong and really took it to Team White. Darren Hogg made some huge saves keeping the game close before Tanner Burns with two quick back to back goals put the game out of reach. Marcus Basara, Darren Nowick and Jesse Nehr each had a real good chance in the final frame but couldnt beat Mike Hails who also made a few big saves as both goaltenders played very well in the 3rd period. Team White come on late with a little pressure but couldnt find the back of the net as Team Blue defeated Team White 6-2.

Team Blue: (Top Players)

Geoff Crisfield (93) Looked very solid on the blueline, played physical and looked good defensively.

Marc Hetnik (92) Also looked very strong with and without the puck. A very smooth skater who can also handle the puck well.

Alex Hagen (92) This kid with some real good moves, looked very strong up front for Team Blue. I was very impressed with the play from Hagen, was very dangerous with the puck.

Patrick McGillis (91) This years Vernon Vipers captain, looked very strong most of the night. Scored a real nice goal in the 2nd giving Team Blue a 4-1 lead.

Jedd Soleway (94) I was very impressed with the local kid. A bigger kid for his age played hard, physical and went hard to the goal scoring twice in Team Blues 6-2 victory.

Mike Hails (94) Didnt see alot of rubber but made a few big saves in the 3rd.

Team Blue: (Game Thoughts)

Overall Team Blue was the better of the two teams with a more ballenced lineup. Team Blue carried the better of the play and had the better scoring chances.

Team White: (Top Players)

Darren Hogg (93) looked very good early to start the 3rd making three back to back to back saves while down and out somehow keeping the puck out. Played well between the pipes.

Brett Corkey (92) looked very solid on the backend, looked good with and without the puck.

Turner Lawson (94) Lawson was an "AP" with the Vipers last season and played very well on the blueline tonight.

Darren Nowick (91) Nowick has grown and gained some weight since last season, looking very good up front. Carried the puck lots tonight. Made some real nice plays through out tonights game.

Marcus Basara (93) Also was another Viper veteran that looked good. Had a few good chances in front but couldnt find the back of the net.

Riley Hunt (95) Didnt really stand out much in the opening period but sure impressed me in the second period. A small kid but has some quick wheels.

Alex Jewell (94) Looked good at times. Had a few good shifts in the opening period as well as in the 3rd. Made a real nice move in close in the 3rd but couldnt find the back of the goal before getting hit into Mike Hails.

Nick Newman (93) Was another player that stood out at times through out tonights inter-squad game.

Jesse Nehr (94) Played very well up front for Team White. This kid can skate and has some nice moves.

Team White: (Game Thoughts)

Team White showed spurts of offence but didnt get the offence and scoring chances as did Team Blue. Any real good scoring opportunities Team White did manage, they couldnt find the back of the net. Alot of talen at this years Vipers camp. A much more bigger looking Vipers team already compared to the past two or three seasons. It will be interesting to see where most of these kids end up, as the Vipers only need a backup goaltender, unless a veteran or new recruit gets cut-traded. I couldnt make last nights inter-squad game, from what I saw tonight I was very impressed.
