Oliver Continues with New Coaching Role

07/29/2011

The Lake Erie Monsters and their NHL affiliate, the Colorado Avalanche, announced today that David Oliver will continue his role in Cleveland with the Monsters as the Director of AHL Operations and will also serve as Assistant Coach under third-year head coach David Quinn. Oliver has served as General Manager of the Monsters since the team’s inception in 2007.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last four years in Cleveland with the Monsters and am proud of what we have accomplished in our short existence,” said Oliver. “I’m thrilled to continue with the franchise and to now be more hands-on with the team and be on the bench with Coach Quinn.”

Prior to joining the Avs and Monsters, Oliver – a seventh round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 1991 - played 13 years of professional hockey, including 233 games in the NHL. That followed a four-year career at the University of Michigan, where he was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Player of the Year in 1993-94.

In related news, former assistant coach Dan Laperriere, who served under Quinn the past two seasons, will continue with the Avalanche organization in his new role of Pro Scout.
