Jets Name Former Viper Sheppard New Head Coach:

The EPL Slough Jets have named former Vernon Vipers forward, Doug Sheppard the teams new head coach. Sheppard played one season in Vernon (1995-96) before attending Providence College.  In 59 games that year with the Vipers Sheppard collected (38-65-103) as the teams second leader scorer.  Sheppard scored the first ever goal in Vernon Vipers history. The Vernon Lakers changed their name to the Vernon Vipers in the summer of 1995. Sheppard scored the Vipers first ever goal on opening night of the 1995-96 season in a 5-3 victory over the hometown Trail Smoke Eaters.

Exciting times ahead as Slough Jets appoint new Head Coach

The Slough Jets are delighted to announce the double capture of Doug Sheppard who will take over as the new Head Coach of the EPL Slough Jets as well as completing their import quota when the team takes to the ice in September.

Sheppard’s playing abilities are no surprise to the Jets fans as he scored at nearly 1.5 points a game in his first season as a Jets’ player and adding the Coaching responsibilities also isn’t a first, having spent the 2006/07 season as Player/Coach of the Basingstoke Bison when they were in the Elite League. Despite the tough environment Sheppard won 23 games, lost 25 and tied 6 of his 54 games in charge giving the small budget Elite League club their most successful season in their EIHL years.

It’s the start of a new exciting era of the Slough Jets who will start the season the defending Premier Cup champions and the Management have no doubt that “Shep” is the right man to take the team forward, building on previous successes, and adding his own touch to the Slough Jets.

General Manager Dee Mason commented; ”I am delighted that we can announce Doug Sheppard as the newest part of the Management team. Doug is a fantastic player and his coaching will bring a fresh new dynamic to the club and I look forward to working with him.”

Team Owner Ghislaine Kozic added; “Both Zoran and myself are pleased to have Doug on board, especially for the 25th anniversary season. We’re confident that we have the right man for the job to build on good foundations and continue the success of the Slough Jets”.

Commenting on his re-signing and his new job Doug Sheppard said; “I was truly honoured when Ghislaine and Zoran offered me the position of Player/Head coach, it's a tremendous opportunity and I look forward to the challenge. We will have a hard working team determined to deliver some silverware to our faithful fans. Together we will continue the success that the Slough Jets organisation has created.”

Doug hails from Georgetown, Ontario, stands at 5 foot 10, weighs 180lbs, and shoots right handed. Previous clubs include; Providence College, Roanoke Express, New Haven Knights, Fassa HC, Oklahoma City Blazers, Basingstoke Bison, Sheffield Steelers and Slough Jets
