ST. PAUL, Minn. - University of North Dakota senior forward Matt Frattin, senior defenseman Chay Genoway, and sophomore goalie Aaron Dell have been named 2010-11 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-Americans, it was announced today at the NCAA Frozen Four.
Frattin and Genoway were named to the West first team, while Dell was a West second-team selection.
It is the second All-America award for Genoway, who was also named to the second team as a junior in 2008-09. After missing most of last season due to post-concussion syndrome, the Morden, Manitoba, native returned for a fifth season in 2010-11 and amassed a career-high 37 points (six goals, 31 assists) in 36 games.
He was one of only four defensemen in the nation to average at least one point per game, and his 31 assists tied for second among the nation's defenseman.
Earlier this season, Genoway tied a 33-year old school record for defensemen by putting together a 12-game point streak. He also became the first player in school history to be a four-time All-WCHA selection when he was named to the league's first team.
Frattin was a Hobey Baker Award finalist after leading the nation with 36 goals, the most by a Fighting Sioux since 1990-91. The Edmonton, Alberta, native led the team in scoring with a career-high 60 points, and put together two of the five longest goal-scoring streaks in UND history. He put together a nine-game streak from Jan. 29 to March 26, and in eight straight games from Nov. 27 to Jan. 8. He also had a career-long 15-game point streak ended in yesterday's Frozen Four semifinal loss to Michigan.
Frattin was an All-WCHA First Team selection after winning the league's scoring race with 40 points in 28 games. Frattin's 40 points during league play were the most by a Sioux since Jeff Panzer (49 points) and Bryan Lundbohm (40) in 2000-01, enabling him to become UND's first WCHA scoring champion since Ryan Duncan in 2006-07.
Dell led the nation with a school-record 30 wins this season, while also leading the nation in goals against average (1.79) and shutouts (six). The Airdrie, Alberta, native also topped all Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in save percentage (.924) and winning percentage (.795). He also became UND's all-time leader in both career goals against average (1.79) and save percentage (.923).
Earlier this season, Dell put together a shutout streak of 224 minutes and 31 seconds that was the second-longest in UND history and the longest since Gerald "Spike" Schultz set the school record of 249:41 in 1953-54.
Dell was named to the All-WCHA First Team after winning the league's goaltending championship with a 1.97 goals against average in 25 WCHA appearances. He was the first Fighting Sioux goalie to be named to the All-WCHA First Team since Karl Goehring in 1999-00.
It is the first year UND has boasted three All-Americans since 2006-07, when Ryan Duncan, Jonathan Toews and Taylor Chorney were honored.
