Hammond Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week

2/21/2011

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Andrew Hammond and women's basketball player Tracy Pontius

Male Athlete of the Week

Andrew Hammond, a sophomore goaltender from Surrey, British Columbia, stopped 17-of-19 shots taken against him in Friday night's 2-2 tie with Northern Michigan. He had two key stops in the last twenty seconds of both the third and overtime periods, inducing a shootout. Against four shooters, Hammond stonewalled all four shot attempts against him helping the Falcons to a 1-0 shoot out victory in his lone appearance of the weekend. His numbers in 64:57 played include a 1.85 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.
