UMass Lowell hockey senior Patrick Cey (Saskatoon, Sask.) was crowned Hockey East's Athletic Republic Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, following his three point (2g, 1a) weekend against Merrimack and Boston College.

Cey scored the goal that snapped UMass Lowell's program record 13-game losing streak on Friday, as the River Hawks toppled #13/14 Merrimack 6-4 in the Lawler Arena. Cey then assisted on the empty net goal by David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) that put the game out of the Warriors' reach.

The veteran forward followed with another score against the third-ranked Eagles on Saturday. Cey's tally late in the third cut the Boston College lead to 4-3 with over three minutes remaining, but the River Hawks would get no closer.

Hampered by an injury earlier in the season, Cey has scored five points (2g, 3a) in the last five games. For the year he has totaled seven points on three scores and four helpers.

Monday's announcement marks the second time this season UMass Lowell has been honored by the conference office. Freshman Chad Ruhwedel (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Rookie of the Week on Oct. 25, 2010.

Cey and the River Hawks have two games on the docket this week, hosting Bentley on Tuesday and Boston College on Saturday. Both contests are scheduled for 7 p.m.
