Published: April 16, 2010

The Revelstoke Grizzlies got off to a stellar start at the Keystone Cup, winning their opening two games of the tournament on Thursday.

The Grizzlies opened the tournament by defeating the host Kamloops Storm 6-2 Thursday morning.

Forwards' Faiz Khan, Brendan Burge, Lucas Blinkhorn and Brad Friedrich all had a goal and an assist for the Grizzlies, while defenceman Caleb Roy picked up three assists.

Forward Bruce Silvera and defenceman Kyle Ceretzke also scored for Revelstoke.

The Grizzlies opened the game strong, peppering Kamloops goaltender Anthony Manfredi with 23 shots in the first period, but they didn't score until just over a minute left when Friedrich scored a power play goal from Blinkhorn and Roy.

The second period was all Grizzlies as they scored four goals, by Ceretzke, Burge, Blinkhorn and Khan. The onslaught chased Manfredi from the net at the end of the period.

The teams traded goals in the third period, with Gary Rai scoring his second of the game for Kamloops and Silvera scoring a last-minute power play goal for Revelstoke.

After a few hours rest, the Grizzlies were back in action against the Tri Town Thunder from Saskatchewan.

The Grizzlies got on the board first with a goal from Bruce Silvera but the Thunder battled back, tying the game late in the first and taking a 2-1 lead 3:48 into the second period.

That was it for the Thunder, as the Grizzlies stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second period.

Jordan Bledsoe tied the game for Revelstoke just over six minutes into the period and Lucas Blinkhorn gave the Grizzlies the lead almost five minutes later. Josh McKissock scored the insurance goal with 5:04 left in the second.

The Thunder pressured to tie the game in the third period, but Grizzlies goalie Andrew Parent stayed strong in nets, making 14 saves to preserve the win.

The Grizzlies resume action at 2 p.m. Friday against the Selkirk Fishermen from Manitoba.

Other results from Thursday's action as follows:

Tri-Town Thunder 1 – Selkirk Fishermen 0

Beaumont Chiefs (Alta.) 6 - Northern Hawks (Ont.) 2
