The Revelstoke Grizzlies finally found their stride as they defeated the host Oceanside Generals 5-1 in front of a packed house at Oceanside Place on Saturday. The win advanced the Grizzlies to the Gold Medal match on Sunday against the Peninsula Panthers, who beat the Aldergrove Kodiaks 2-1 earlier in the day.

While there was no scoring in the 1st period, the Grizzlies out-shot the Generals by a 16-9 margin, and it seemed like a matter of time before they would take the lead. The first goal came at 9:24 of the 2nd period, when Grizzlies' Dayton Martens scored to make it 1-0. Generals' Nolan Zarazun then took a roughing penalty at 10:56 of the period. With the Grizzlies hemming the Generals in their own end and pressing for the pp goal, the Griz turned the puck over to Gens' Kyle Yamasaki who broke in on Andrew Parent and scored short-handed at 12:10 to even the score at 1-1.

The Grizzlies got it back at 15:30 when Luc Blinkhorn scored to make it 2-1, and the Grizzlies took a slim 2-1 margin to the dressing room at the end of two periods.

The Grizzlies came back in the third period, knowing that a tie would move the Generals to the Gold Medal game. They turned up the pressure, out-shooting the Generals 21-7 in the period and scored 3 times. The insurance goal came at 4:02 from Bruce Silvera to give the Griz a 3-1 lead. Silvera scored his second of the night at 14:41, and a power-play goal by Kyle Ceretzke at 16:52 effectively sealed the deal.

With time running out, the Generals took a series of undisciplined penalties in the final 2:30, eliminating any chance of a rally. The Grizzlies out-shot the Generals 58-28 in the game, and went 1 for 7 on the power-play. The Generals were shut out in their 5 power-play chances.

With the win, the Grizzlies and Generals are tied for second place in the round-robin segment with 3 points apiece, but the first tie-breaker is the result of the round robin game between the teams, won by the Grizzlies. This sets up a re-match of the first game of the tournament, when the Panthers defeated the Grizzlies 5-1 in the only other lop-sided game of the round-robin. The Grizzlies will be looking to redeem themselves when they meet at Oceanside Place at 4PM on Sunday.

In the Bronze Medal game at 11:30 AM, the Oceanside Generals will try to repeat their game 2 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks, while the Kodiaks will be looking for a measure of revenge.
