Tonight is the fifth meeting of the season & back to back games between the defending Royal Bank Cup Champion Vernon Vipers & the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Vernon comes into tonights game on a three game winning streak. Salmon Arm is riding a one game losing streak.

Let’s take a look at the Vernon Vipers:

The Vipers currently sit #1 overall in Canada & in the league as the BCHL’s best team with a record of 34-2-0-2 six points up on the 2nd place Penticton Vees. Vernon has scored a league high 199 goals and given up the least amount of goals with just 67. Vernon has the leagues best road record at 18-0-0-1 Vernon is 7-1-0-2 in their last 10 games. The Vipers have three players in the leagues top 20 in scoring. Mike Collins (23-33-56), Connor Jones (24-25-49) & Braden Pimm (16-28-44). Graeme Gordon & Blake Voth also lead the league as the BCHL’s top two goaltenders. Gordon with a record of 25-4 with 1 shutout and a GAA of 1.80 Voth has a record of 9-0 with 2 shutouts and a GAA of 1.44 Tonight is the final game of a small two game road trip for the Vipers (Trail & Salmon Arm).

The Vipers need to jump on the Silverbacks early, a team that has just one win in their last five games.

Kellen Jones is still out of the Vipers lineup with a broken jaw.

Vernon needs to get lots of pucks and traffic towards Tony Ierfino, a goaltender that has played very well against the Vipers this season.

Dylan Walchuk & Cole Ikkala need to get going, both players have been very quiet as of late.

Graeme Gordon will try to go 5-0 against his former team.

The Vipers need to play a full 60 minutes, in their last three games vs. Salmon Arm the Vipers have allowed the Silverbacks back into the games giving up some late 3rd period goals to make the final few minutes very interesting.

Salmon Arm is 9-6-2-2 on home ice. Salmon Arm is 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 games. The Silverbacks have two players in the leagues top 20 in scoring. Mark Zengerle (22-62-84) & David Killip (23-32-55)

League leading scorer Mark Zengerle needs to carry the Silverbacks on his back if the team wants any chance at knocking off the Vipers.

Tony Ierfino who is 0-4 against Vernon this season, has played well against the Vipers but has yet to come up with a victory. Ierfino will have to make the big save when needed tonight to give his team a chance to win.

The Backs need to get off to a good start and cant fall behind early. Salmon Arm seems to turn things up late in their last three meetings vs. Vernon but fall one goal short.

The Backs need a full 60 minute effort in order to knock off the defending RBC Cup Champions.
