Final Road Trip:

The Vipers have packed their bus for one final road trip on Friday afternoon and are now off to Victoria for the Royal Bank Cup. The Vipers playoff journey started way back on May 6th when they faced the Penticton Vees and never looked back. The Vipers took it one game at a time and one series at a time, "All year long we talked about taking it one step at a time and one shift at a time. Once playoffs started we took it a series at a time but always had our eyes on the Royal Bank Cup" Assistant Coach Jason Williamson said. After taking the Vees in 5 games the Vipers went on to beat Salmon Arm and Powell River in 6 games. "Salmon Arm was one of the most physical and draining battles we had" said Williamson "and the Powell River series could have went either way, with the triple overtime victory being a huge momentum swing." After winning the Interior Championship in Salmon Arm the Vipers won the coveted Fred Page Cup on home ice in Vernon. "Anytime you can win at home is a great feeling" Jason said "and our fans are very loyal to our organization and it was special to win in front of them" The Vernon Vipers then moved on to face the Alberta Champions, the Grande Prairie Storm. Not knowing much about the Storm they focused on what they knew and played the game the knew how the play. "Once again all year long we talked about worrying about ourselves and not about our opponent." said Williamson and added, "we thought that if control the things we can control then we will be successful." In four games straight the Vipers swept the Storm and now knew they were going to be going to the Royal Bank Cup, when asked about how the team will prepare for this tournament Williamson said, "the only team we know anything about is Victoria so once again we won't change much, we will just play our game and take in one shift at a time" The tournament starts on Saturday May 2nd and runs until Sunday May 10th and the Vipers will play their first game on Sunday May 3rd against the Summerside Western Capitals from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
