Storm Win 2009 Enerflex Cup:

The Grande Prairie Storm captured the 2009 Enerflex Cup with a 4-0 series victory over the Spruce Grove Saints on Sunday evening in Grande Prairie. This is the second Alberta Junior Hockey League Championship in franchise history for the Storm.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is proud to partner with Enerflex Systems Income Fund as its Championship Sponsor. The AJHL’s sixteen member teams battle annually for the honour to hoist the Enerflex Cup as League Champion. League President Craig T. Cripps presented the Enerflex Cup to the Grande Prairie Storm in front of a capacity crowd at the Canada Games Arena.

The 2009 Playoff MVP Award was presented to Carter Rowney of the Grande Prairie Storm. The 19 year-old Rowney, of Sexsmith, Alberta, recorded 18 points in 19 post-season games, including 3 game winning goals and 7 powerplay goals.

The Storm completed the regular season second only to the Regular Season Champion Spruce Grove Saints. The Storm advanced to the 2009 League Final by eliminating the Lloydminster Bobcats (3-1), Sherwood Park Crusaders (4-2) and Brooks Bandits (4-1).

The Grande Prairie Storm captured the 2003-2004 AJHL League Championship versus the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (4-1 in best-of-seven final). The Storm also advanced to the AJHL League Final in 2001-2002 and were defeated by the Drayton Valley Thunder (4-0 in the best-of-seven series).

The AJHL League Champion will face off against the BCHL League Champion in the 2009 Doyle Cup (Alberta / British Columbia Championship Title). The Storm will face the winner of the Vernon Vipers-Powell River Kings series in the BCHL. The 2009 Doyle Cup Series will commence in the BCHL on April 17th. The Doyle Cup Champion will qualify for the 2009 RBC Royal Bank Cup National Junior ‘A’ Championship in Victoria from May 1st - 10th, 2009. The Grande Storm were defeated by the Nanaimo Clippers in the 2004 Doyle Cup (4-1 in best-of-seven). The Storm advanced to the 2004 RBC Royal Bank Cup as the host team where they eventually lost in the Semi-Final.
