Cory Kane fired the winner as the Vernon Vipers stuffed the Penticton Vees 3-2 in Game 3 of the B.C. Hockey League's Interior Conference semifinals Tuesday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The Vipers' James Kerr set up Kane in the slot, who unleashed a high wrister to beat netminder Sean Bonar, deflecting in off the crossbar at 17:26 of the third period to hand the Vipers a 2-1 series lead.
Game 4 goes Wednesday, 7 p.m. at the Events Centre. The series returns to Wesbild Centre for Game 5 Friday night. If necessary, Game 6 goes Saturday in Penticton, and Game 7 would be Tuesday at Wesbild.
Speedy Garret Millan led the Vees with a pair of powerplay goals, the first coming at 1:15 of the first frame, the second coming midway through the second. The Vees went 2-for-5 with the extra man.
Vernon replied with a powerplay goal by Kellen Jones at 7:52 of the first, assisted by brother Connor and Sahir Gill.
Second star Kyle Bigos gave the Vipers the lead less than two minutes later.
Vipers netminder Andrew Hammond recorded 24 saves to earn first star. Bonar made 27 saves in the loss.
