  1. This is what happens when you have poor recruiting, the Vipers start the preseason 0-3 and aren't very good. Look at the amount of changes already as Matt Cooke wants to bring in his own players. The previous management and coaching staff left Matt Cooke with not a lot of promise. Matt Cooke was hired July 18th and I would guess the majority of his training camp roster was recruited by the previous management/coaching staff. Obviously Cooke and the new coaching staff have brought in some of their own players but due to poor recruiting, they will now have to try and revamp the Vipers roster on the fly, as the season continues by either making trades or bringing in players who have been cut/or released from other teams/leagues.

I don't think Cooke is done and will be seeing more changes.

I haven't been very impressed with the Vipers so far. I know it's super early and it's only the preseason but before all the roster moves today, they had 29 players with not a lot of cuts left to be made, we would have been stuck with basically the same team come opening day. The Vipers haven't looked good or played good and I knew Matt Cooke would be making changes and putting his stamp on the team. Let's face it, this year will be what it is. Viper fans won't see an official Matt Cooke team until next season, after he does all the recruiting/assembling the team himself. The previous six seasons management/coaching staff have done a poor job recruiting and this will all change now with Matt Cooke in charge. I'm very excited for the future and what Matt Cooke and his staff will bring to the Vipers.

  3. I dont think that if they are or are not on the preseason roster that they are not on the team. I think that all it means is they are not playing the next game.

  4. I thought we would see some changes after an 0-3 start. We'll see how the new players perform tomorrow.

  5. What players has Cook brought in that have looked good ? Actually forget "Players".....what "Player" has looked good ?? As you mentioned, he was hired July 18th.....presently Sept 11th

    1. Yes, he has had since July18. But all the other teams in the league locked up the best players long before July. Trail even went on the road and held a couple of camps down in the US early in the summer. This late in the process, the Vipers aren't going to find any stud players floating around.

  6. Who are you kidding this is a Matt Cooke team. He has been picking up kids all summer and he’s released players that could have made an impact. Still unclear the type of player he’s looking for. preseason hockey isnt great but the games Ive watched look like bad high school hockey. Time will tell.

  7. These players have to be cooks. There was no recruiting going on prior. Poor hockey, lack skill, and dumb penalties already. What coaching credentials does he have?
I know what kind of player he was...seems some of these players fill his style.

  8. Exactly!! What credentials does he have at this level? ZERO! Owner hired him because he played in the NHL. That does not mean he’s a good coach or will be. And his assistants - anyone look at their credentials??
