Really like the Charko addition. On the other hand I am really upset vernon didn’t try to keep Pastro. He is having a lot of success with his new team. Playing top minutes unlike in vernon. I don’t think he was used the right way in vernon
You are “really upset Vernon didn’t try to keep Pastro”? To be clear he made the decision to leave Vernon with the hope of playing in the WHL. When that didn’t work out he came back because it was his only realistic option, they had his BCHL rights. He ceased being part of their plans when he decided to try out elsewhere. Vernon did not delay or make him sit for a while, rather they facilitated a trade immediately which was a very fair & responsible thing to do. I applaud them for having the integrity to do that, the past management may not have made that same choice. I like the trade they made as It has benefited both Trail & Vernon, both players are playing well with their new teams..
Pastro initially was a good player for Vernon but last year he did not look the same. The change of scenery appears to have done him good. He is not the captain of a below average team and he is now away from hometown pressures. When things aren’t going well for a team it is the captain who must put the team on his back and drag the others into the fight. To be truthful we did not see that last year from him. Pastro is now playing on a very good Trail team, he is not the captain nor is he expected to be the difference maker every night. Good for him, he is being productive and it appears as if he is having fun again. I wish him nothing but the best.
Marty, I understand that Pastro asked for a trade right after the season ended last year but was jerked around by vipers leadership all summer. Saying that the bchl was his only option is incorrect, even though the vipers had his rights, he was free to go to other Jr a leagues including the ushl and nahl. Also, trails leadership group was named before pastro was traded there so I would assume he will be a leader , looking at his pts so far even without a letter on his jersey. From what I know of him, he's a character kid on and off the ice and had no support last year from the vipers organization. Wish him all the best in Trail.
I agree I liked Charko the first time I saw him . He plays with an agressive energy with vision of helping his team anyway he can. Charko was a good choice. Go vipers Go
Erik Pastro asked to be traded last season when everyone else was wanting out of Vernon because of the incompetent management and coaching but was denied. And just like every other player that left he is now thriving in a positive environment. Not saying that this years staff is bad but he needed change of scenery. A good hockey trade was made by Matt Cooke which is something that never resulted with John Glenn in charge.
Why so hard on Pastro… like several of the players on the team, he went to a whl camp. Why wouldn’t he? He asked for a trade because he was unhappy in Vernon but I also heard Cooke wanted him to stay for this season. He did what was best for him
